Financial Director Nottingham

In July 2002 Leadley Limited became the Mercedes-Benz franchise for the East Midlands, a region generating turnover of £120m. With just days to go before acquiring the next dealership at Loughborough there was no finance director in place, and the vendor there was taking all their systems with them. Additionally, the systems at Nottingham and Mansfield were both poor and in need of replacement.

Nettleships were called in initially to provide interim financial director services. The first tasks were to tighten controls over cash flow, improve the management accounts and give management some meaningful financial information.

We also project managed the acquisition of Loughborough (£10m turnover) and the implementation of a new system at that site. The vendor exited the site on a Saturday lunch time as the deal was completed taking all computer systems with them. By Monday lunchtime we had a new network in place and the new Kerridge dealership system set up and ready to start trading.

We then rolled out the implementation of Kerridge to the Nottingham and Mansfield site. The final go live date went very smoothly, which is a rare event as putting new systems into dealerships has sometimes been compared to open heart surgery - literally nothing stops.

Additional achievements:

• Negotiated IT managed services contract to give Leadley best value

• Reformatted the management accounts and automated the financial reporting, shaving two days off the month end timetable

• Gained significant efficiencies in internal processes through smarter use of Excel
